Play Gloucestershire’s Young Volunteer program was planned and designed by young volunteers in January 2009. The program was set up in order for children and young people who wanted to participate in formal volunteering to log hours and receive rewards.
A group of our Young Volunteers who exceeded one year’s hours were asked what they would like to do as a reward for all of their work; First Aid training was their response.
A trainer from St John’s Ambulance came to Shurdington Social Centre for a day’s training with a group of 11 of our young volunteers.
The day went was a success as everyone learnt lots and had fun, and all 11 of the young volunteers that took part passed the course and received their certificates – well done all!
‘It was fun and I learnt a lot!’ Jade
‘Thanks for letting me go on the course.’ Megan

Play Gloucestershire had their Young Volunteer Christmas treat a little late this year due to having to postpone the day planned in December because of the severe weather. So on 6th February we invited 18 of our young volunteers and children who have helped out at our sessions to join us for a day of play, set up especially for them as a big thank you for all of their help.
This year’s Young Volunteer Treat was held at the University of Gloucestershire Oxtalls Campus in Gloucester. We had access to a wonderful piece of green space with trees to explore and play with and open space to run around in. Alongside helping our play ranger chef to set up the kitchen and cook lunch, our young volunteers used their pedalling skills to create paint art, got muddy in knee rugby and built their own rope walk and hammock. The day ended with hot chocolate and farewells as children and young people from across Gloucestershire had met and made friends with others children and young people from within the county, and everyone headed home tired and smiling.
